No, the new box that’s appeared in Magellan’s café is a suggestion box which is aimed, as ever, at improving the service we give. So if you’ve a favourite meal you’d like to see on the menu, an idea for speeding up service or any suggestion that you think could make your visits to the café more enjoyable, let us know. So far we’ve had some really great suggestions and as a result the café now has two extra toasters and stocks soya milk. We’ll try to meet all the requests we can to steer Magellan’s on the course you want.

One of the Quadrant’s big pluses is having experts on the doorstep, so we’re delighted Andy Hanselman is running his Duo courses – Drive Up and On  - here. “We help businesses get better at what they do,” says Andy. “We have entrepreneurs and business leaders from around Yorkshire. We take people through the business development and improvement process, work out what’s right for them, how to motivate people and get the best out of the marketplace.” Jim’s already benefiting from the current DUO programme and highly recommends it.  The next course starts on September 27. Magellan's customers will have noticed a snazzy new design on the wall.  It explains who Ferdinand Magellan was and why we chose his name for the cafe.  The superb graphics and layout are the work of local designer Neil Bunn who also rejoyces in the title of Lord Bunn!  So is he blue blooded?  "The Lord bit was given to me years ago when I demanded some coffee in a somewhat hightened tone and it stuck a bit!" he admits.  Okay, so he's just an ordinary chap like the rest of us but he's still an aristocrat among designers!

Our first suite of 'Quad Pod' mini offices has been snapped up so quickly we're converting another office!  Each Quad Pod has an individually screened workstation with desk, filing cabinet, internet and phone - all for just £250.00+VAT per month.  The existing suite of Quad Pods has four stations and houses three companies.  "In tough times, people are looking for economical ways to run their businesses and our Quad Pods fit the bill for start ups and some more established businesses."

THERE'S A NEW PLAYER IN THE QUADRANT TEAM... Local business consultant and motivational speaker Andy Hanselman is to host 12 seminars in one day in aid of the Master Cutler’s Challenge.

The SeMinARATHON is On Tuesday June 21 with the first at 8am and the last at 7pm at The Quadrant Business Centre on the Parkway.

In between, Andy will be doing 10 different ‘laps’ in 10 local businesses. He is inviting the staff of these businesses to join him on their own ‘lap’ at their offices - in reality it’s a 45-minute seminar on a subject that they choose, before he heads off for the next challenge.

The SeMinARATHON is part of this year’s Master Cutler’s Challenge where the focus is all about Challenge leading to Achievement – all money raised will go to helping improve the employment prospects of young people in the Sheffield region.

“Our whole ethos is about challenging organisations leading to achievement, so this just seemed a natural ‘fit’ for us” explained Andy’s ‘coach’ Jill White.

There has already been a good response with commitments from organisations such as B Braun Medical, Kennedys and BHP. But Andy is keen to get more firms on board.

He said: “We’re delighted at the response we’ve had so far. We’ve also had requests from banks, some public sector organisations and several of Sheffield’s leading forward thinking businesses and business networks. Each ‘lap’ consists of a bespoke seminar targeted at the organisation’s individual needs and relevant to their people. So far we’re looking at sessions covering customer care, improving competitiveness, leadership, building better teams and standing out from the crowd.”

The first and last seminars are open sessions for local business leaders.
